Normally I dismiss large screen touch interfaces as being hoola-hoops. Sure, both were common back in the 80′s but both had their time with the gimmick factor. But really they were just awkward.
BUT this is cool. It like the two joined together. It’s round, it’s touch sensitive and it’s new. It may even have some niche applications such as the control point for turrets on a war-marine. A variety of game game. Anywhere you may need several perspective where control needs to be handed to the left or right.

Most of all – it’s just purity.

It’s basically infrared light that gets picked up by a modified web cam through a rear projected screen. Special open source software captures the light blobs and converts them to points that you can use in visualization software like flash. If you’re looking to get into this it can be done pretty cheap and it’s a lot of fun to produce different interfaces.
